Sheldon Andy Van Sluys 05/08/1952-09/19/2025
Eternally loved and profoundly missed by wife and soulmate of nearly 50 years, Linda, his treasured and devoted children Jillian Dargatz (Peter), Skyler (Lauren), and embraced daughter Nina Velander. He was also proud Papa to Embry, Oakley, Arden, Landon, and Annie, who brought him constant immeasurable joy.
Special friend to brother Blaine, further survived by brothers Corky (Carol), Reid (Edith), Sisters-in-Law Cindy Silverbrandt (Mel), Judy, and many other nieces, nephews, and numerous friends.
Preceded in death by parents Harold and Jeanice (Unger), and siblings Nathan (Connie), Loralie, and Dana.
Sheldon began working early on with a paper route at age 12, bragging that he had the most houses in the fewest blocks. He later worked with cars at Benny's in Cedarburg, before starting his 40-year vocation, holding multiple roles in the aluminum can industry with Continental Can Company, Miller Brewing, Reynolds, and Ball.
Sheldon wore a gruff exterior that hid his steadfast heart of gold. Those who knew him best understood his unique personality and unwavering loyalty. He was a skilled Jack-of-all-trades and could fix almost anything.
He really enjoyed woodworking, creating decorative benches and other unique pieces, and most memorably the artistic Minion sculptures that adorned his front yard.
Some of the greatest memories of Sheldon start with the hot cars he had in his younger days; his purple GTO, and Saab Sonnet, which ultimately was what attracted the love of his life when they met at Continental Can and later married in 1975. Many knew him for his love of billiards, which was an interest developed since his youth, spending many days at Teensville in Thiensville, Cedars, and most recently playing for The Hamilton. He had a passion for music, notably classic rock and later old country, and was a connoisseur for unique musical artists sometimes only known to few. He would often reminisce when songs played about the times he saw the artists in concert, and was frequently found singing or whistling a tune. He shared this love of music with all of his kids, rocking out in the basement to great songs from his incredible vinyl collection and accompanying them to concerts. He loved his dogs, and spent many early mornings throwing tennis balls to his faithful canines while waiting with his children for the bus. He was an avid reader and crossword puzzle guru, and loved sharing his knowledge and fun facts with all. He had a rich sense of humor, always telling 'Dad' jokes before the term was ever coined. As he settled into retired life, he took great care of the birds, squirrels, and other critters. He meticulously maintained a feeding schedule, which kept his backyard friends happy and returning for all to enjoy.
He won his grandbabies over by sneaking them candy "beans" and gummies, often carrying them in the pocketed shirts he famously wore. They remember him best for his love of Minions, slot car races, playing wiffleball, and the secret handshakes he had with each of them.
