Ruth Mary Reid nee Kane, of Cedarburg, WI passed away peacefully on May 29th, 2026 at the age of 93.
Ruth was born on July 3rd, 1932 in Milwaukee, WI to Ellis and Helen Kane (Campbell). She attended St. Sebastian's Grade School, Holy Angels Academy, graduating in 1950, and completed her education at Marquette University with a degree in nursing.
On May 2nd, 1959, Ruth married the love of her life James M Reid. Together they built a life in Milwaukee, until 1985 when Jim’s job was transferred to Washington State. They lived in Washington for 10 years until Jim's passing when Ruth returned to Milwaukee to live near family and friends.
Ruth is survived by her children: Anne (Grant) Witte, Maureen Bolda, Michael Reid; Grandchildren Grace (David) Heinen nee Witte, Clare Witte, Hannah (Anthony) Schoenfeld nee Bolda, Evan Reid, Sarah (Adam) Escobedo nee Reid, Ellis (Jeili) Reid; Great-Grandchildren Ezra and Marlow Schoenfeld, Miller and Marley Escobedo, Aiden and Jordan Reid; Sister Eunice Brandstatter nee Kane; Nieces Mary (Lee) Kopstad, Sue (Kurt) Schlehlein, Betsy (Glen) Gerber and Nephew David (Jody) Brandstatter; further survived by many other family and friends.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband James Reid, parents Ellis and Helen Kane; brother-in-law Duane Brandstatter.
Ruth lived a long and meaningful life defined by dedication to her family, strong faith and caring presence. Those who knew her know she would go above and beyond to ensure her family and friends were taken care of. Ruth loved to treat others. She loved to bake her famous sugar cookies, caramel corn, and loved ice cream, which often was dinner. She was a selfless giver and a kind friend. Her memory is a blessing and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2026 - 11:30 AM at St. Francis Borgia South Catholic Church, N44W6055 Hamilton Road, Cedarburg, WI. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 10:00 AM - 11:15 AM. Private interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Milwaukee, WI. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Divine Savior Holy Angels High School or Marquette University School of Nursing.
As a tribute to her love of the Flag and the 4th of July, please honor her by wearing Red, White, and/or Blue.
