It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Mark S. Papcke, who entered eternal rest on July 14, 2025, in Mequon, Wisconsin, after a courageous battle with prostate cancer. Born on January 2, 1955, in Madison, Wisconsin, Mark was a shining light in the lives he touched, leaving behind an enduring legacy of kindness, faith, and community service. Mark was united in marriage with Linda (nee Hummitzsch) on September 15, 1990. Together, their marriage was blessed with two children, Tara and Andrew.
Mark spent a long and fulfilling career as an Application Engineer at Wilo, where he embraced his work with unwavering passion. His dedication not only fostered a sense of pride in his craft but also allowed him to form many cherished friendships with his coworkers. He was deeply respected and admired for his sweet disposition and selfless nature.
An esteemed graduate of Madison La Follette High School in 1973, Mark went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1986. His education laid the foundation for a remarkable professional journey, but it was his devotion to family, faith, and service that truly defined him.
Mark met his wife, Linda while both were involved with the Cedarburg Jaycees, having held the position of Past President. His love for life was reflected in his hobbies, especially his passion for golfing and traveling to national parks with his family. These family vacations were among his most treasured memories, filled with adventure and laughter. Mark cherished trips that took him to various places, including Door County, Canada, Mexico, Punta Cana, Hawaii, and Charleston, SC, where he enjoyed visiting his daughter. An elder and usher at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Mark was actively involved in various roles within his beloved church community, reflecting his strong religious beliefs and faithfulness.
As a dedicated Badger fan, Mark was a season ticket holder for many years, proudly representing his team on Game Day Saturdays in Madison. In 2020, he achieved his dream of watching the Badgers play at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena with “The Six Pack”. His enthusiasm for life extended to his involvement in 4-H, a passion that he joyfully passed down to his children. He could always be found cheering them at their various activities and events.
Mark leaves a loving family to cherish his memory. He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda; his children, Tara and Andrew; his mother-in-law, Mary Hummitzsch; and brother-in-law, David Hummitzsch. He also leaves behind his dear aunt and uncle, Joyce and Roger Utermark, along with beloved cousins, numerous close friends, and colleagues. Mark’s furry companions, Quincy and Lucy, and his granddogs, Boomer and Bentley, will also miss his gentle presence.
Mark was preceded in death by his father, Harry Papcke; his mother, Virginia (nee Gjermo); and his father-in-law, Ronald Hummitzsch.
Visitation will take place at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Grafton, Wisconsin, on Sunday, July 20, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:45 PM, followed by a Funeral Service at 4:00 PM. A private burial will take place at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery on Monday, July 21, 2025. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Paul Lutheran Church are greatly appreciated.
A heartfelt thanks goes to Dr. Cook, Dr. Puffer, and their staff, along with the staff at Newcastle Place for their compassion, care, and concern throughout his journey.
