Kathryn Ruth Smith, passed away peacefully at Gardens of Hartford on June 24, 2026, at the age of 90. Kathryn was born on November 1, 1935, to Pastor Benjamin and Selma Borgschatz. She grew up surrounded by family and friends and carried a spirit of kindness and grace throughout her life. Kathryn was married to her beloved husband, Sydney Smith, for 45 years. Together they shared many years of love, companionship, and cherished memories.
Kathryn dedicated her life to education, teaching for many years. She began her teaching career at the age of 19 while attending Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota. She was known for her patience, dedication, and the lasting impact she made on generations of students.
Kathryn is survived by her sisters: Dorothy Rusch, Rhoda Kosanke, and Muriel Most; her brother-in-law, Richard Reese; and many nieces and nephews, along with extended family members and friends who were blessed to know her.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband, Sydney Smith; her parents, Pastor Benjamin and Selma Borgschatz; her sister, Eunice Reese; her sister-in-law, Lyndell; and her brothers-in-law: Leonard Rusch, Pastor Frederic Kosanke, and Robert Most.
Kathryn will be remembered for her gentle nature, caring heart, and the warmth she shared with those around her. She especially enjoyed playing the organ and spending time gardening, finding joy and peace in both throughout her life. Her memory will be treasured by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 – 5:00 PM at David’s Star Ev. Lutheran Church 2740 Davids Star Dr. Jackson, WI. Private interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 3:00 PM – 4:45 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the charity of your choice are appreciated.
