Joan I. Amundson

Joan I. Amundson (nee McCrudden), a beloved educator and cherished matriarch, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2026, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, at the age of 84. Born on May 26, 1942, to Andrew "Pete" and Irene McCrudden in Minnesota, Joan embodied a life of dedication and love that will forever be remembered by her family and the countless students she inspired throughout her teaching career.

A proud graduate of John Marshall High School in Rochester, Minnesota, Joan pursued her passion for education, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Education followed by a Master's Degree in the same field. She dedicated many years to teaching kindergarten and first grade in the Glendale School District, where her commitment to nurturing young minds left a lasting impact. Her dry sense of humor and generous spirit endeared her to her students and colleagues alike.

Joan's devotion to family was a defining aspect of her life. She greatly treasured time spent together with her husband, Donald, daughters, Kristin (Guy) Hummel and Megan Amundson, and her granddaughter, Halle Emge. Whether reading to Halle or relishing the joy of holiday celebrations, Joan's love for her family shone brightly in every moment shared. An avid reader and coffee enthusiast, Joan found solace in curling up with a good book, often accompanied by her favorite Peppermint Mocha from Starbucks.

Joan was a long-time member of the Herb Society of America, where she dedicated 15 years, including serving as a board member and President of the Wisconsin chapter. Her involvement in the organization led her to discover new ways to incorporate herbs into her baking and cooking. Joan's curiosity and zest for life enriched not only her own experiences but also those around her.

Joan is survived by her devoted husband, Donald Amundson; her loving daughters, Kristin and Megan; her cherished granddaughter, Halle; and her sister, Kathy (Jim) Eastling. She is preceded in passing by her parents.

Joan’s strength, humor, and passion for life will forever resonate in the hearts of all who knew her. Private family services were held in her honor.
