Janet L. Polum, age 63, of Cedarburg, Wisconsin, passed away on September 1, 2026, surrounded by her family under the exceptional care of the team at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee. Born on November 12, 1962, in West Bend, Wisconsin, Janet was the beloved daughter of Jim and Ruth Gollnick, and the cherished sister of Diane and Jimmy.
Janet graduated from Cedarburg High School in 1982 and continued her education at Patricia Stevens Finishing School, earning a diploma in Public Relations. She began her career in insurance before discovering her true calling in healthcare. During her many years with Ascension, she worked in several clinics as a patient access representative, expanding her skills into scheduling, billing, and insurance. She found deep purpose in her work and formed lasting friendships with coworkers and providers, especially in the heart and vascular clinic in Mequon.
On June 1, 1985, Janet married the love of her life, Tom Polum, at Faith Lutheran Church in Cedarburg. Together they built a full and beautiful life, raising two children, Kimberly and Kyle, and later welcoming five grandchildren who became the center of Janet’s world. She delighted in attending their wrestling matches, soccer games, and school activities, always cheering with quiet pride and joy.
Janet’s personality was defined by gentle laughter, kindness, and a calm presence that made others feel at ease. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and word searches, finding comfort in simple, peaceful moments. A talented jewelry maker, she crafted countless bracelets, necklaces, and rings—each one a reflection of her creativity and care. She also loved sewing, fishing, camping, and attending Milwaukee Admirals hockey games with her dear friend Gail.
Above all, Janet had a lifelong love for sea turtles. They filled her home in blankets, clothing, jewelry, and treasured knickknacks. To her, sea turtles symbolized patience, resilience, and a deep connection to the ocean—qualities she carried throughout her life.
Janet was preceded in death by her father, several aunts and uncles, her nephew, and dear friends. She is survived by her devoted spouse, Tom; her children and their spouses, Kimberly (Alexx) and Kyle (Lexi); her five grandchildren; her siblings, Diane and Jimmy; and her mother, Ruth.
