Janet M. Maier Harmon

Surrounded by family and love, Jan was peacefully born to eternal life on December 18, 2024, at the age of 93 years. She is survived by her loving children Dave (Barb Cihlar) Maier, Ken Maier, Dan (Sue) Maier, Terri Weber, Tim (Donna) Maier, and son-in-law Thad (Kim) Steffen. Treasured grandmother of Dr. Weston (Dr. Victoria Hamilton) Maier and Zachary (Carah) Maier; Lindsey Beth Maier; Stephanie (Justin) Snyder, Brett (Hanah) Weber, and Jenna Weber; and Erik, Tyler, and Abigail Steffen; and great-grandmother of Finnley Snyder and Iris Maier.

Born in Milwaukee, WI on January 19, 1931, daughter of Elmer and Mildred (Schroeder) Kucksdorf, Jan was preceded in death by husband Charles Harmon (d.2020, together 13 years), and first husband Thomas Maier (d.2005, together 52 years), daughter Lori (Maier) Steffen (d.2013), and her son-in-law, daughter Terri’s husband, Bruce Weber (d.2024.)

Jan was a devoted and beloved piano teacher for most of her adult life. She worked full time at Schaum Music School as a receptionist shortly out of high school for several years. An early graduate of Wisconsin Conservatory of Music in Milwaukee, WI, Jan began offering piano lessons at the age of 17, teaching hundreds of students over the following 70 years in the Milwaukee, Brown Deer and Cedarburg areas. She loved teaching and considered every student precious.

An only child, Jan knew from an early age that she wanted a big family that would fill her life with love and laughter. She rallied and wrangled extended family celebrations and holiday get-togethers at every opportunity. Not many things made her happier than seeing those she treasured enjoying themselves together, or sharing a Manhattan with friends and getting the “latest scoop.” If Jan met you, she’d forever remember not only you, but the names and particulars of your entire family tree.

Jan enjoyed reading, music, the performing arts, and her Green Bay Packers. She loved socializing with neighborhood and church friends, dinning out, and regular bridge nights with the club.

Jan had a deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ. “My life revolves around my faith, my family, and my friends.” She loved her church family and participated in the Crossroads community as a church deacon and assisted with several outreach committees.

A Memorial Service and celebration of life will be held at Crossroads Presbyterian Church in Mequon next spring 2025. The family asks that memorials made in the meantime go to Crossroads Presbyterian Church.
