Ingeborg H. Johnson

Ingeborg “Inge” H. Johnson (nee Voss), 83, of Cedarburg passed away peacefully on July 4, 2025 after a three year battle with cancer.

Inge was born on October 13, 1941, to the late Erich and Herta (nee Ruegsegger) Voss in Koenigsberg, East Prussia, Germany. Inge and her family were sponsored to come to the United States by Emil Paulus of Paulus Supermarket in Cedarburg. She came to the U.S. by boat, then entered through Ellis Island. Inge and her family arrived in Cedarburg June of 1952, when Inge was 10 years old.

Inge was a graduate of Cedarburg High School. She worked at Kiekhaefer Plant 1 in Office Production Control. She was then hired by Superintendent Frank Kennedy to work in the Business Office for the Cedarburg School District. For 30 years Inge processed attendance, payroll, fringe benefits and insurance for 600 employees. Inge retired in 2000 at the age of 59.

Inge loved her family and treasured her many friends. Inge was independent, classy, and decisive. She enjoyed puzzles, reading, and snowmobiling. She was a helpful member of S.V.E.V. D’Oberlandler Bavarian folk dancing club in Milwaukee. Inge loved to travel and enjoyed her various trips including to Germany, Italy, Spain and Portugal. She loved everything to do with birds and was a beloved member of The Birthday Club. She always enjoyed fun times with her friends on her bowling team at Hadler Lanes in Thiensville and never EVER missed the Vienna New Year’s Concert by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. She also hosted yearly family Thanksgiving dinners and Christmas get togethers, and would more recently treat her family for Mother’s Day brunch while proudly claiming, “I am cooking!”. Lastly, she loved maintaining her yard and riding her John Deer (who she humorously claimed to have many “dates” with).

Inge was stoic, strong and smart. Inge loved to laugh. She did not want anyone to be sad, fuss over her, or feel sorry for her, which is why she adamantly chose to forgo any sort of funeral service or celebration of life.

Those Inge leaves behind to cherish her memory include her sister Doris Fischer, her brother Siegmar Voss, her five godchildren Jonas Ast, Heidi Dunford, John Lehmann, Laura Stroebel, and Debbie Tushaus, many other relatives who loved Inge so very much, and a multitude of dear friends who Inge had special, close relationships with. Sadly, Inge’s sister-in-law, Cheryl Voss, and Inge’s brother-in-law, Jerry Fischer passed away on June 12, 2025 and July 8, 2025 respectively.

Thank you to the kind, caring staff at Horizon Hospice, Aurora Medical Center Grafton, Lasata Senior Living, Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center, and Kathy Hospice.

Inge was loved by all who knew her and will be missed by many.
