With peace in our hearts, we announce the passing of Howard L. Honett, a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and cherished friend, who departed this world peacefully on March 7, 2026, at the age of 100 and a half in Cedarburg, Wisconsin.
Born on June 18, 1925, in Stanton, Iowa, Howard journeyed through life with purpose, focused on his relationship with Jesus and others. As a Professional Engineer specializing in HVAC, Howard dedicated an impressive span of his life to his profession, working diligently until the remarkable age of 95. His ethic of hard work and an unwavering commitment to excellence left a lasting impression on his peers and the many lives he touched.
A proud veteran, Howard served in the Naval Air Force from 1943 until 1945. Although he loved flying airplanes, this chapter of his life was but one facet of a man whose adventures extended beyond the skies into the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Howard was not just an engineer or a serviceman—he was a hound dog for Heaven and a man of faith. A graduate of the Milwaukee School of Engineering, he was deeply involved in the church, chaired various boards, and went on several mission trips. For over 20 years, he led a Friday morning men’s bible study that he continued even after moving into the Hamilton House. He was also dedicated to his small group for 45 years underscoring the fervent belief that drove him to help others and uplift those around him. Howard's outgoing personality, coupled with his desire for all people to know Jesus, allowed him to build lasting connections.
In life, he found joy in daily scripture reading, helping others, providing hospitality, and working on projects. His zest for living was infectious, inspiring those around him to embrace life with the same enthusiasm.
Howard is survived by his children Steven (Jane), Stan (Sandy), Sheryl Magelssen, Sharleen (Mark) Trantham, and Shirley (Eric) Foust, along with 17 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Their lives are a testament to the love and faith he showed throughout his years.
He joins in Heaven his first wife and mother of their children, Irene (nee Surbaugh); his second wife Dorothy (nee Lantz), and his third wife Donna (nee Grede). He is also predeceased by his parents Walter and Ruth (nee Benware), his brother Kenneth (Dorothy), his son-in-law Paul Magelssen, and his three grandchildren Christina Honett, Lydia Wahlstrom, and Drew Wahlstrom.
As we gather to celebrate the remarkable life of Howard Honett, we remember a man who exemplified faith, love, and determination. His legacy will continue to shine through the hearts of those who loved him, telling stories of a life well-lived, characterized by giving and a deep commitment to Jesus.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 10:00 AM at Mueller Funeral Homes, Grafton, WI. A celebration of life will follow at 11:30 AM at the funeral home, with burial at Graceland Cemetery at 1:00 PM.
