With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Harriett W. Melvin, 91, of Grafton, Wisconsin, who died at home on August 1, 2025. Affectionately known as “Oma” by those closest to her, Harriett will be remembered for her kind and generous spirit, deep faith, and unwavering devotion to her family.
Born on February 5, 1934 in Delaware, Ohio, Harriett earned her nursing degree from Mt. Carmel where she ran the recovery room before choosing to dedicate her life to her family. As a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she embraced her role as the heart of the home—offering love, comfort, and strength to those around her.
Harriett was a passionate cook, baker, entertainer and gardener. Her home was always filled with laughter, delicious aromas, and the joy of gathering. Her flower arrangements were just as memorable as her famous desserts, and she turned every get-together into a celebration.
Harriett’s love for horses began in childhood, attending the Little Brown Jug harness races in Delaware with her father—a tradition she cherished and continued for many years with family and friends. She also brought the spirit of the racetrack home, hosting Kentucky Derby parties that showcased her flair for food, hospitality, and festive décor.
She is survived by her children Megan (Don) Puccetti, Beth (Dennis) Puccetti, John Melvin and Mia (Ray) DeLong; her seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and her sisters Jeanette (David) Maxwell and Mary Louise Williams.
Harriett’s legacy is one of love, generosity, and grace. She lived a life rooted in faith and family, and her warmth and kindness will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. “Oma” was truly one of a kind—and her memory will forever be a blessing.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to St. Vincent de Paul memorial fund through St. Joseph Catholic Parish.
