It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Frederick E. Mehlos, who left us peacefully on June 24, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on January 13, 1934, Fred lived a full and vibrant life, leaving behind cherished memories for his family and friends.
A lifelong resident of Grafton, Wisconsin, Fred was known for his warm heart and kind spirit. He proudly served in the Army, embodying the values of dedication and camaraderie that remained with him throughout his life. While furthering his education, Fred received a degree in Journalism and used this knowledge in his career as a salesman for IBM and the Gordon Flesch Company. He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Barbara Mehlos, whose companionship brought him immense happiness.
Fred's journey was one of love, resilience, and laughter. He had a unique ability to connect with others, sharing stories and laughter that brightened the lives of those fortunate enough to know him. Music was one of the great joys of Fred’s life. An accomplished pianist, he studied at the Chicago Conservatory of Music, where he developed a lifelong appreciation for the beauty and expression found in classical piano. Whether playing for family and friends or simply for his own enjoyment, music was a constant source of peace and inspiration. He also had a deep admiration for eagles, finding in them a symbol of strength, freedom, and grace. Their majestic presence reflected the quiet dignity and resilience with which he lived his own life, and his love for these remarkable birds remained one of his many cherished passions.
Fred may have departed this world, but his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Fred is survived by his wife, Barbara (nee Bansemer), children, Fred (Dianne) Mehlos, Paul (Becky) Mehlos, Anne (Brad) Larson, Sandra (Pat) Hughes, Lynn Mohr and Christine (Don) Gasparedo. He is further survived by 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents Frederick Mehlos, Evelyn Mehlos and sister Marcia Hauswirth.
