Elizabeth "Betty" A. Zahn

Elizabeth "Betty" A. Zahn, a woman cherished for her kindness and warmth, left this world on April 19, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 11, 1931, in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin. Betty's life was a tapestry of love, service and joy woven through her roles as a devoted mother, grandmother and friend.

Betty was a longtime homemaker dedicating her life to caring for her beloved children. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her family to the wider community as she worked as a secretary for the Mequon-Thiensville School District. She was known as the kindest and sweetest lady always ready with a helping hand for anyone in need.

A proud graduate of Chilton High School in 1949, Betty possessed many interests that enriched her life and the lives of others. She loved riding her bike along the scenic trails and supported her husband’s horse racing business, sharing a deep passion for horses.

Betty’s pastimes were filled with baking and gardening. She often spent joyful hours canning the fruits of her labor, sewing clothes for her family and friends, and engaging in spirited card games of sheepshead with her friends.

Her devotion to her faith was unwavering as Betty was highly active within her beloved Immanuel Lutheran Church. Her spirit will forever resonate in the hearts of those who gathered with her in fellowship.

Betty found immense pride in her family, which included five children: Linda Speerbrecher, Cynthia Kokta, Jeff Zahn, Denise Victor and Bonnie Weiss. She was also blessed with 14 grandchildren—Matthew (Becky) Miller, Andrew (Sue) Miller, Paul (Emilie) Kokta, Mark (Heidi) Kokta, Michael (Kate) Kokta, Greg (Christina) Zahn, Kelly (Paul Conant) Zahn, Laura (Brenden O'Gorman) Zahn, Melanie Zahn, Stacy (Jon) Berg, Jamie (Neil Stickel) Victor, Lauren (Jake) Sweet, Lindsey Weiss, as well as 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to her immediate family Betty is survived by her brothers Jerry (Donna) Steenport and Steve (Joy) Steenport, a brother-in-law Harlie (Diane), as well as sisters-in-law Beverly Luedtke and Nancy Steenport. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will forever be missed but fondly remembered.

Betty is reuniting in Heaven with her beloved husband, Lesley Zahn, her parents, Kermit Steenport and Madeline Steenport (nee DeKarske), her siblings, Doris, Jim and Dyan, sons-in-law Norman Speerbrecher, Wayne Kokta and Bill Weiss and many dear family members and friends.
