Doris A McMahon, née Woehler
Doris Ann Woehler was born October 5, 1927, in Appleton, Wisconsin, to Erna (Jens) Woehler and Arthur Albert Woehler. She was a spirited child, raised in Appleton with brother Eugene during the Depression, graduating from Appleton High.
University years were spent at the UW in Madison, Wisconsin, where she graduated in 1950.. She moved to Milwaukee and worked for Pabst Brewery, and met her future husband Thomas B McMahon. They both sang in the Pabst Choir. They married in 1954, had one daughter, Pamela, and moved to Cedarburg in 1957. Doris received her Teaching Certification from UW Madison in 1964, returned to Cedarburg where she taught elementary education for 30 years in the Cedarburg Public School System. She dearly loved her students and fellow teachers.
Doris was a member of Advent Lutheran Church, Cedarburg, for 67+ years, active in the same Bridge Club for 45+ years, her Teacher’s Card Club, and a member of the honorary teaching sorority, Delta Kappa Gamma. She was an avid reader, and loved to travel throughout the US & Canada, Europe, Brazil and the Bahamas. Music and art were a valued facet of her life. She appreciated other languages and cultures and made lifelong friends from many countries.
Her three grandsons were deeply loved by Doris. She enjoyed their sports activities, in particular, Ice Hockey. She was proud of their academic achievements, cheered on their sports, and valued their kindness. She was thankful to have the privilege to see them grow into fine men.
Health challenges threatened her last 25 years - Multiple Myeloma, Macular Degeneration, Alzheimer’s. She became a physical warrior, overcoming countless adversities with patience and determination.
Doris passed away peacefully at Zilber Hospice in Wauwatosa on January 11, 2025.
