Derek Gary Maul

Derek Gary Maul, born March 20, 1977, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, passed away unexpectedly on April 29, 2026, in West Bend, Wisconsin. Derek's life was marked by an unwavering commitment to his craft, a warm and approachable personality, and a profound dedication to his family and community.

A proud graduate of Homestead High School in 1995, Derek pursued higher education with focused determination, earning his Master’s degree in Structural Engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1999. His academic achievements laid the foundation for a distinguished career in structural engineering, culminating in his ownership and operation of GMA Structural. Derek’s professional legacy is defined by the many projects he successfully completed, each a testament to his expertise, meticulous attention to detail, and innovative approach to structural challenges.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Derek embraced life with warmth, humor and his faith in God. Described by those who knew him as funny, kind, compassionate, and exceptionally intelligent, he embodied all the admirable qualities one would associate with a truly remarkable individual. His love for pastime activities such as golf, sheepshead, and baseball reflected his vibrant spirit and desire to engage fully with life. Above all, he treasured spending time with his family, cherishing moments together that included memories of Madison football games, family vacations to Hawaii, and other meaningful trips.

Derek is survived by his beloved wife, Jessie; their children, daughter Caitlin Maul and son Ahren Maul; his mother, Clarann Frohnapfel and her husband, Tom; and his siblings Yvette Schwanbeck (Mark), Suzy Langlois (Chris). Also surviving him is his best friend, Mike Starke, who remained a steadfast presence throughout his life.

He is preceded in death by his father, Gary Maul, and his son, Jeremy Krejci.

Derek’s passing leaves a profound void, yet his legacy endures through the lives he touched, the family he nurtured, and the structures that stand as monuments to his life's work. His presence was a pillar of strength and kindness—qualities that will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Funeral services for Derek will by held on Sunday, May 10, 2026 – 5:00 PM at St. John Lutheran Church 1616 W. Mequon Rd. Mequon, WI. Visitation will be held at the church on Sunday from 2:00 PM – 4:45 PM. Interment will be in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. John Lutheran Church East Mequon are appreciated.
