Dennis W. Damerow passed away peacefully in his home on October 22, 2025, in Waubeka, WI, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 31, 1943, in Port Washington, WI, to parents Otto and Ruth (née Mueller) Damerow. In 1967, he married the love of his life, Joyce (Schmit), and together they raised three children.
After graduating from Port Washington High School in 1961, he began his career at H&K Concrete, where he later retired after 50 years of hard work. From 1966 to 1968, Dennis served in the United States Marine Corps, earning three Purple Hearts in the Vietnam War for his bravery. As a proud veteran, his commitment to his country and his family remained a cornerstone of his character throughout his life. Semper Fidelis.
He was a man who cherished every moment spent with loved ones, particularly at his grandchildren’s sporting events, where his enthusiasm and support never went unnoticed. Dennis was a dedicated member of his community, serving as an usher at St. John Lutheran Church, a member of the Fredonia Legion, and an active VFW member. He had a passion for gardening, farming, collecting model tractors, and traveling with family, all of which filled his life with joyful memories.
Dennis leaves behind his beloved wife of 58 years, Joyce, and their three daughters: Cathy (Bill) Bares, Michelle (Sean) Peiffer, and Jodi (Kevin) Klas. He was a cherished grandfather to Nathan (Jen), Haily (Ryan), Dylan (Taylor), Bennett, Bryce (Hannah), Karli (Andrew), Jack, Beau, Grant, Grace (Ryan), Greta, Gabby (Cooper), and Grady, with whom he shared countless memories. He was also proud to welcome his great-grandchild, Violet. In addition to his immediate family, Dennis is survived by his brothers Roger (Gayle), Lee, and Donald (Sue).
Dennis joins in eternal rest his grandson, Austin Bares, and his beloved parents, Otto and Ruth (née Mueller) Damerow. He is also preceded in death by his father-in-law, Emmons Schmit, and mother-in-law, Florence Schmit.
The Damerow family would like to thank the staff of Sharon S. Richardson Hospice for their compassionate care. A special thank-you to caregivers Bre, Cindy, and Lori, who always brightened Dennis’s day.
A visitation to honor Dennis W. Damerow will take place on October 31, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Fredonia, WI. Following the visitation, a memorial service will begin at 3:00 p.m., providing family and friends the opportunity to share their memories and celebrate a life well lived. Following the service, inurnment will take place at the church cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Honor Flight or to St. John Lutheran Church are appreciated.
