Binnie L. Sweet

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Binnie L. (Pfeifer) Sweet of Grafton, Wis., on July 27, 2025, at age 78. She passed away after complications from heart surgery at Aurora St Luke’s Hospital in Milwaukee.

Binnie grew up the youngest of 6 in a German-French Catholic household on the East Side of Milwaukee. Her older sisters mothered her, and her older brothers teased her. She graduated from Riverside High School, then began working in office jobs downtown. She met her husband-to-be, Steven C. Sweet, at Robert W. Baird. They were married June 19, 1971, had their daughter Kimberly in August 1973, and this year they celebrated 54 years of marriage.

Binnie was a devoted mom and homemaker who also worked part-time jobs in retail and office administration. She volunteered for many years at the Lasata Care Center and as a poll worker for elections. She loved to cook and bake, and often did so on behalf of St. Joseph Catholic Parish in Grafton and the St. Ben’s Meal Program. Binnie cared for all animals and grew beautiful flowers in her garden. She took a thrice-weekly aerobics class up until the day before her surgery. She loved to read and to spend time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband and daughter; her brother- and sister-in-law, Dick and Sheila (Ostfeld) Sweet; her nephews, Skip McShea, Kirby Deatrick, Mike Jellen, William Pfeifer Jr., David Sweet, and Daniel Sweet; her nieces, Joanie (McShea) Crenshaw, Susie (Deatrick) DeZarn, Lynda Jellen-Brown, Margaret Evanson, Jennifer Sherman, Bonnie (Pfeifer) Jones, and Leah Sweet; as well as her larger extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by parents Charles Pfeifer and Florence (Andre) Pfeifer; sisters Ann (Nick) McShea, Shirley (Del) Deatrick, Joan (Joe) Jellen; brothers William (Beverly) Pfeifer and John Pfeifer; nephew Jeff Jellen; and niece Cindy (Pfeifer) Drummond.

Visitation will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1619 Washington Street, Grafton, Wis., from 11 am until noon on Monday, August 4. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated from noon to 1 pm, followed by lunch. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery in Grafton will take place later that afternoon.
