The Rev. Barbara (nee Poister) Jordan, baptized child of the covenant and follower of Jesus Christ and minister of the Word and Sacrament of the Presbyterian Church USA, passed away peacefully at Zilber Family Hospice in the early hours of July 23, 2025. Barb was predeceased by her older brother, Ron Poister, and nephew Chris Livington. Barb is survived by her daughter Amy Lotz, son-in-law George, grandson Jack, sister Marilyn Livingston, sister-in-law Joyce Poister, nephews Paul and David Poister and their families.
Born November 4, 1946 to Paul and Eileen Poister, she was raised by her mom after her father passed away when she was not quite six years old. She was blessed to live near both sets of grandparents who played key roles in her life. Barb graduated from Beaver Falls High School in Beaver Falls, PA in 1964. Not liking cold weather and being of an independent nature, Barb headed south to Florida. She graduated from Florida Presbyterian College (now Eckerd College) in St. Petersburg, FL in 1968. Her daughter Amy was born in 1971 in Milledgeville, GA. Their family lived in Tallahassee, FL and Trenton, NJ before moving to Jacksonville, FL in 1980.
After working 30 years as a corporate manager in the legal, travel and telecommunications industries, Barb finally “let God have his way with her life” and she entered seminary. In May 2001, Barb was awarded the Master of Divinity, Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA. For nine years, Barb served as Pastor of Congregational Care at Crossroads Presbyterian Church in Mequon, WI and later as a hospice chaplain at Zilber Family Hospice in Wauwatosa, WI. Barb had an extraordinary gift in understanding exactly what words to offer up when praying for people especially those facing medical challenges and at the end of life.
Barb deeply valued her family and close friends. She was an enthusiastic traveler, having adventured to Egypt, Hong Kong, and Greece. Though quiet and thoughtful, Barb formed deep and lasting relationships, including being an active part of a women’s Bible study for more than 15 years. She was a special woman with a deep well of faith and a generous nature.
Barb loved being “Baba” to grandson Jack. They enjoyed playing Scrabble, watching the Bucks games and rubbing his feet. She created more than 30 scrapbooks of her family showcasing photos and stories.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Crossroads Presbyterian Church, 6031 W. Chapel Hill Road, Mequon, WI 53097. The family will receive visitors directly following the service at the church.
