Robert Harold Akerlund

Robert Harold Akerlund June 8, 1926 – July 18, 2017 Bob Akerlund, age 91, formerly of Eagle River WI and Ontonagon MI, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 in Cedarburg, WI., with his wife by his side. Bob, known to many as ‘Akey’, was born on June 8, 1926 in Racine, WI. He was the oldest of three boys born to Harold and Amanda (Dahl) Akerlund. On September 26, 1953, he married Arlene Piepmeyer and the couple moved north to Eagle River where Bob worked for the US Postal Service and they raised their three children. After retirement, Bob and Arlene relocated to Ontonagon, MI, where Bob enjoyed the great outdoors, fishing on Lake Superior, playing cribbage, and sharing laughs with friends and family. For the past few years, he resided at Lasata Crossings assisted living community in Cedarburg, WI. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brother Donald, and youngest son Jeffrey. Surviving are his wife, Arlene; his children, Susan (Jeff) Watts of Mattawan, MI and Scott (Patty) Akerlund of Grafton, WI; his grandchildren Kari Watts (Seth) VanHeukelom, Beth (Joel) Jagodinsky and great grandson Elijah, Kyle Watts, Laura Akerlund and fiancé Peter Kreusel; brother Kenneth (June) Akerlund and many nieces and nephews. A private service celebrating Bob’s life will be held at a later date. Burial will take place in Ontonagon.
