Marilyn R. Symmonds, 61, of Cedarburg passed away at the Lawlis Hospice on February 9th, 2020 following a long battle with cancer. Marilyn was born August 26th, 1958 in Oshkosh, WI to Leo and Muriel (Boucher) Metzler. She graduated from UW-Oshkosh in 1984 with Bachelor’s degrees in both Computer Science and Business Administration. On August 12th, 2007 she married Don Symmonds. She was employed as a database analyst and manager until her retirement in 2014. Marilyn is survived by her husband, Don; daughters Jayne (Tom) Best, Aryn (Jim) Ferris, Kyal (Randy) Zachow, Dayna (Steven) Jensen; 7 grandchildren (Evie, Nora, Lizzie and Jimmy Ferris and Marty, Charlie and Hannah Best; siblings Diana Hanseder, Dennis (Linda) Metzler, Kaye Solomon (significant other, John Hazen) and Kathy (Wayne) Daniels and stepsons Steve (Kristin) and Mark Symmonds. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law Tom Hanseder. While attending university Marilyn worked in auto sales at her parents' dealership, Metzler Sales & Service. After graduation she sold payroll systems. Dissatisfied with sales positions, she accepted her mother's advice, returned to UW-O and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science that led to a most successful IT career in both technical and managerial roles. An excellent seamstress, Marilyn's daughters fondly remember their home-made Halloween costumes while her sisters enjoyed partnering with her on larger sewing and quilting projects. Marilyn loved camping with her family and purchased a camper so she could share this pastime with her grandchildren. Marilyn’s favorite holiday was Thanksgiving where she provided large, wonderful meals to her dearly loved children and grandchildren that left many responding, "I'm never eating again" - until she presented the desserts. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM on Saturday, February 15th, 2020 at Eastbrook Church, 5353 N. Green Bay Ave in Milwaukee followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM. Marilyn will be laid to rest at Immanuel Cemetery, in Cedarburg.
