Howard E. Neubauer, longtime resident of Grafton WI, died at Heritage Nursing Home in Port Washington on Saturday, Oct. 3 at the age of 92 years with Shirley, his beloved wife of 66 years, at his side holding his hand. Born September 16, 1923 he was baptized into Christ on October 20, 1923 at Siloah Lutheran Church where he was also confirmed on March 21, 1937. Raised in Milwaukee, WI he attended Rufus King High School. Howard began working at Schlitz Brewery in Milwaukee where he stayed for 39 years doing mechanical maintenance. He retired in 1981. After that, he started working at Edgewater Golf Club in Grafton, eventually becoming head Greens Keeper. He loved his retirement job and worked there for 25 years. Howard served in the Army Air Force in England, Germany and France for three years during WWII, coming home in 1946. He and Shirley were married at Siloah Lutheran Church in Milwaukee in 1949 and moved to Grafton in 1956. He was a active member of St Paul Lutheran Church in Grafton for over 50 years where he was chairman of various boards and the congregation. He also served as an Ozaukee County Board Supervisor for 24 years. Howard was always available to anyone who needed help. He was an avid bowler and golfer and thoroughly enjoyed fishing for walley in Northern Wisconsin with his family. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, daughter Wendy Kretschmar and her husband Pastor Alan Kretschmar, their daughter Laurie Dillman and her husband Nathan, and daughter Rachael Kretschmar, his son Pastor Jim Neubauer, his wife Kim and their children, Daniel, Jillian, Matthew and Sophia. He is predeceased by his daughter Nancy Jo Neubauer. A Funeral service for Howard will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 701 Washington St., Grafton. The Rev. Scott Kruse will officiate. A time of visitation will be at the church on Thursday from 3:30 p.m. till 5:15 p.m. Memorials to St. Paul Lutheran Church appreciated.
