Gertrude "Gert" L Ernst

* Gertrude Louise Clarinda (nee Gierach) Ernst left this world to be with her Lord and Savior in His Heavenly Mansion on August 4, 2015. She was born in Rockfield, WI, at the farm home of her parents Herman and Mathilda Gierach during a snow storm on January 2, 1924. Her father left with horse and sled to get the doctor but Gertrude was born before they could return. Two weeks later she was not expected to survive a case of pneumonia. She was baptized on January 13, 1924, Confirmed on May 23, 1937, married to Melvin Ernst on October 17, 1942, all at Trinity Lutheran Church, Freistadt, WI. Much time was spent on the farm and she enjoyed ice skating, roller skating, sledding, tobogganing and dancing. She also learned to play the concertina. At age eighteen she married Melvin Ernst, a loving and sincere man. They lived at a remodeled house, owned by Melvin’s grandparents, for seven years. Melvin’s parents then gave them an acre of land to build a Lannon stone house which was their home for 43 years, raising their family with many continued blessings from our God. Daughter Carolyn, married James Brueggemann, son Clifford, married Susie Schmeling, daughter Beverly, married Mark Brueggemann ( Jim and Mark are brothers), twin sons Tom and Tim married Vickie Probst and Cindy Secord respectively and son Brian, married Pamella Wirkus. All six children attended Trinity Freistadt Grade School and Milwaukee Lutheran High School. Carolyn, Beverly, Tom and Tim graduated from various Concordia Colleges, Brian from UW Stout while Clifford became an honored Veteran having served in the U.S. Army. After the children were on their own, Gert worked for Andre Furs in Shorewood for 31 years and loved it. She also loved baking, cooking, knitting, sewing, children and babies. They always had family devotions, attended church and Bible studies regularly and served many other organizations within the church. Mel and Gert were blessed and proud of their many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. *Excepts from Gert’s own obituary notes. Funeral Services will be Monday, August 10, 2015 at 12:00pm (Noon) Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, 10729 W. Freistadt Road with visitation at the church on Monday from 10:00am until the time of services. Interment church cemetery.
