Elroy F. Scheer

Elroy F Scheer (also known as “Buck”) passed away on December 29, 2014 at his home. Elroy was 91 years old. Elroy, the son of Frank and Edna Scheer, was a Grafton resident his entire life. He attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School and then Grafton High School. He proudly served in the Navy during World War II on the USS Salamaua CVE 96. One of his biggest thrills was going on the honor flight to Washington DC to see the World War II memorial. Upon returning home from the war, he married Rita (Clapham) Scheer who preceded him in death. They were married 65 years. Together they raised 5 children. Elroy enjoyed his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Elroy loved his family more than anything in this world. Elroy will be remembered for his great sense of humor, smile, and service to the community of Grafton. He was a member of the Grafton Fire Department for more than 50 years. He served as Assistant Fire Chief, and 41 years of service as the Grafton Fire inspector. Elroy will be sadly missed by his sister, Elvira “Vera” Schmidt of Fredonia, children, Frank (Mary) Scheer, Richard (Shirley) Scheer, Susan (Steve) Pokey, Michael (Deborah) Scheer, grandchildren, Jason (Sue-Lynn) Scheer, Kimberly (Tim) Masenthin, Melissa Pokey, Nicholas Pokey, James (Nikihla) Schroeder, Jason (Michelle) Schroeder, Noah Scheer, Mikaela Scheer, and 7 great grandchildren. Welcoming Elroy into heaven were his wife Rita Scheer, daughter Anne Scheer, parents Frank and Edna Scheer, brother in law Chester Gramoll, brother in law Raymond Schmidt, and many beloved family and friends.
